Attention: Grabber

A stroke of luck cleared my Saturday at the last minute; a shot to Paul's and braking history was made. Nissin 4 pot RC51 caliper mated to Brembo (Ducati take-off) radial master attached to '78 FLH.

A sheet of 1/4" aluminum was cut down to a rough bracket and axle center drilled.

Paul fabbed up top hat shaped sleeve for the old 5/8" banana pin hole.

Paul's neighbor Perley came through big by shaving off .105" from the caliper mounts.

After fitting and refitting umpteen times, we're down to nibbling in place for max pad contact.

Finally, we're done. Added master cylinder and that baby has the kung-fu grip.

Range vs. Aesthetics...

I really like the way that Wassel looks on the shovel...but it's capacity sucks.
Just for laughs I threw on that abomination of gas tanks, The Porkster. It looks like a glandular problem and is generally unclean in the eyes of the choppa gods, but I have never, ever had 4 gallon capacity on a custom bike.
Might have to catch Jason and have him make it purple...then I could switch 'em out like changing hats or something.

Another post-Cape fix

Apparently, most of my sprocket rivets had broken which left one bolt to hold the whole assembly together. I was on my way to work and one last clutch pop did it in...
I pushed the shovel a mile & a half to a hardware store and did the Herb fix (a few machine screws just to get me home.) Now I've got sixteen 1/4-20 bolts in there. Let's hope they're up to the task.

50 Wet Love

Not much to add other than the 3rd annual Cape Cod Rain Invitational was a little wet, but as usual the Captain put on a great shindig. Where else can you go from conversations about Nugget and Black Tail, to Bum Fights and 80's movies?! Rain or shine, it's always a good time!

Nice to pack all the season's rain riding in one weekend isn't it?

It works that way, right?

Vintage Bike Day

Stopped by the Tumbleweeds MC Vintage Bike Day today at the Star drive-in. Lots of nice stuff there. The day was perfect for it, and it was nice to see a lot of familiar faces.

New seat from LePera arrived recently. So far, I like it and I got to keep the stock hinge.

No hail the size of canned hams...

...no biblical flooding, just some rain.
My yard looks like a set from Jurassic Park though.

3.05 cubic inches of pavement shredding power

An Italian Harley unearthed from 1966. Cooler than nancy knuckles, pansy panheads, and sugar daddy shovels - this thing has it all. Where else can you find a combination three speed twist grip shifter and clutch. The rest of the M50 is off getting painted. You saw it here first!

It's alive!

Just waiting for the fairing to come back from paint and some other minor adjustments.

Lighting the way...

...to chopper glory.
After riding I realize I need to make some sort of stabilizer for that top light. It flops around like one of those wobblehead demons in "Jacob's Ladder".
If I don't, I'll go through headlight bulbs like Jack Nicholson goes through submarine sammiches.
