Apparently, most of my sprocket rivets had broken which left one bolt to hold the whole assembly together. I was on my way to work and one last clutch pop did it in...
I pushed the shovel a mile & a half to a hardware store and did the Herb fix (a few machine screws just to get me home.) Now I've got sixteen 1/4-20 bolts in there. Let's hope they're up to the task.
Bummer! I guess a mile and a half is better than 10 and a half.
ReplyDeleteYeah...and it's all better than having it happen on Rte. 93, Boston, in the pissing rain. I'm glad it held up long enough to get me home.
ReplyDeleteWatch those 1/4-20's, I went that route with nylock/locktite and they still backed out, which is amazing because most of the time I use nylock/locktite combo they bond for life.
ReplyDeleteDid you have your black cat gloves on while pushing?
Unbelievable. I even thought of safety wire, but I couldn't see myself center drilling then through-drilling sixteen bolts...
ReplyDeletedrilling 16 nuts sucks even more!
