Yeah...a 16" 5.5" wide car tire, the kind that would fit on the back of a shovel. People who have never done it claim you will die immediately if you run a car tire on a bike; you'll go into a turn and just explode in flames. The Goldwing and Harley guys over at darkside.nwff.info (where they specialize in such things) feel differently. The shovel wears them all square anyway, so why not get car mileage in the meantime?
I'm dying to try it out. Just don't ride behind me if I do it, mmmkay?

Ride to the Cape with my new Japanese friend

Every year around this time I threaten to anyone that will listen that I am going to tear down my Pan^Shovel and sell the motor and trans. Usually my busy time or dumb little things like pacemakers get in the way and the bike comes out of winter hibernation looking much the same. This year on our gay ol' ferry ride back from hipster world I made the threat, sell off the 1951 motor and trans, buy a "commuter" and build my '72. Well one text led to another and in less then a week my bike was stripped down and Mr Cutler had himself a new motor and trans. Which leads me to my new Japanese friend, his name is 2001 Kawasaki ZRX1200r, and he comes from Japan thru Hill, NH.

Alright, after a damp GR6 I parked the shovel pending some maintenance. I pulled the kicker cover to check a noise out and ended up replacing the kicker gear while I was in there. No other weirdness was found, throwout bearing was in good shape so back together it went.
Upon reassembly, I find the clutch won't disengage. Clutch pushrod works fine, throws the pressure plate out nicely, but with clutch pedal down the kicker still turns the motor over. Naturally I think I screwed reassembly up, "last thing you did" and all that so apart it came. Twice. No joy.

Out of ideas, I decide check out the clutch side of things...and this is what I found. Several plates stuck together by some sort of unholy invincible chemical/mechanical bond.
How stuck were they? Enough to stall a shovel when dropped into 1st.

They pried apart okay and will work for now but I think I'll be ordering up a new set of plates this week...

To take many pictures this weekend, but my camera lost a battle with the road. All around excellent weekend, Walter puts on a great event. The Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh is well worth the trip, truly overwhelming the amount of bikes they have, one stolen pic of the garbage wagons. I think the rest of the idiots may have taken more pictures. Speaking of idiots, we have a new idiot, all 5 readers please say hi to Jason.
