Excuse the mess; the maid doesn't come in until June.
This is the basic profile I'm running with on the FXS. No artsy exploration in alloys, just solid components in a time-tested arrangement.
The only real party piece will be the swingarm-mounted fender & sissy bar...I've wanted to do that for a while.
There's a round chrome oil tank on the way plus some 3" glide risers; I just need to get a seat then all the major componennts will be there. Oh, and the cylinders, I'll need those too.

Syncing the throttle bodies on the R1100 today, as well as a valve check. Look how nice those heads are set up, valve adjusters right there, lots of room to work.

It's pretty, it's stainless...but I couldn't hack the plastic grip inserts on the wife's SP-101. It wanted something more...stylish.
I found a guy in Utah who makes inserts out of different kinds of wood...birdseye maple was the ticket.

Psychic Blood Brother Jason had a bit of a problem during his commute...seems his sprocket bolts backed out and neatly machined away about 60% of his Exile sprotor caliper.

As a result, the caliper cocked off center & the pads contacted the sprotor full time, heating the rotor massively. He swung by the torture dungeon and we got the back end apart, removed the offending caliper, machined up a spacer and got him back on the road.

In related news, I think the Cube would look boss rollin' on solids.

It's amazing what a difference good suspension makes. These little babies couples with a set of truly progressive fork springs also from Works Performance make the old GS handle SO much better. I'd say it's like riding a newer bike, but I wouldn't know....

Little belt issue this morning

My probably-needs-to-be-rebuilt 1951 transmission occasionally "pauses" between gears, today was the perfect storm of heat, RPM and pause, the result was about 120 of the 132 teeth being stripped of my drive belt.

Tried using the jam bar to get the front sprocket off which didn't work very well, then tried to remove the Primo clutch hub, again a fail. Finally did what I should of done in the first place, the old rope in the cylinder, worked perfectly, new belt on in 5 minutes.

Went out for a little solo run on the bike yesterday, and decided to stop for an iced coffee. Pulling in, I ran into a couple of locals that I've had the pleasure to talk to on various occasions, John and Dave from the Ty-Rods C.C. Talk about a couple of characters! These old timers will gab your ear off if given the chance, but only a fool would turn away without listening. These guys can tell some stories, and I was drinking it in. It's amazing how times change. I wasn't even born yet when they were out drag racing after high school. Unfortunately, I was born in the wrong era.

A stroke of luck cleared my Saturday at the last minute; a shot to Paul's and braking history was made. Nissin 4 pot RC51 caliper mated to Brembo (Ducati take-off) radial master attached to '78 FLH.

A sheet of 1/4" aluminum was cut down to a rough bracket and axle center drilled.

Paul fabbed up top hat shaped sleeve for the old 5/8" banana pin hole.

Paul's neighbor Perley came through big by shaving off .105" from the caliper mounts.

After fitting and refitting umpteen times, we're down to nibbling in place for max pad contact.

Finally, we're done. Added master cylinder and that baby has the kung-fu grip.

Dished tanks rule.

I really like the way that Wassel looks on the shovel...but it's capacity sucks.
Just for laughs I threw on that abomination of gas tanks, The Porkster. It looks like a glandular problem and is generally unclean in the eyes of the choppa gods, but I have never, ever had 4 gallon capacity on a custom bike.
Might have to catch Jason and have him make it purple...then I could switch 'em out like changing hats or something.

Apparently, most of my sprocket rivets had broken which left one bolt to hold the whole assembly together. I was on my way to work and one last clutch pop did it in...
I pushed the shovel a mile & a half to a hardware store and did the Herb fix (a few machine screws just to get me home.) Now I've got sixteen 1/4-20 bolts in there. Let's hope they're up to the task.
